Fourth leg: one box, several items, a few hard limits

Leg 4 is a decision rather than a wait: which stored items travel together, in what packing, under what declaration. Sugobuy's figures make the trade-offs fairly clear.

The official consolidation example, checked line by line

Sugobuy's consolidation page uses GD-EMS to the United States with a first 500 g at CN¥205, each further 500 g at CN¥72 and CN¥8 handling per parcel. Its example parcel holds a 700 g, a 1,100 g and a 1,600 g item; posted one by one they cost 285, 357 and 429 yuan, CN¥1,071 in total. Sent as one 3,400 g parcel they cost 205 plus six steps of 72 plus 8, which is CN¥645, a saving of CN¥426.

The page itself prints that combined line as equal to 672 before using 645 in the next sentence. The arithmetic gives 645, so the saving it quotes is right and the 672 is a typing slip. The help-centre copy of the same article carries the same slip.

Three lighter items at the GD-EMS example rates

Most first parcels are lighter than 3.4 kg. Take a 450 g T-shirt, an 800 g hoodie and a 1,300 g pair of trainers in their box. Alone, at the same example rates, they would cost CN¥213, CN¥285 and CN¥357, or CN¥855. Together they weigh 2,550 g, which is the first 500 g plus five further steps: 205 plus 360 plus 8, CN¥573. The shoe box is the item to think about: removing it, an option on the submit page, can take a step off the parcel weight and shrink the box for lines that charge by volume.

The consolidation calculator on the tools page lets you change the rates and weights. GD-EMS to the US is only the example line; the line you pick in leg 5 has its own first-weight and step prices.

Shoe boxes, corner guards and paid packing

The submit page offers Simple Packing or Paid Packing for the whole parcel and three switches per item: remove outer packaging, add four corner protectors, remove the shoe box. Removing packaging saves weight and volume; corner guards add a little of both and protect boxed goods. The tutorial shows paid packing options priced in dollars, which are example values that change with the item.

Sugobuy's packing standard describes what happens behind the scenes: a suitable box, items loaded in order with bubble sheet on top, extra filling or cut-down boxes for odd shapes, then sealing, reinforcement, a label and a fragile sticker where needed.

Rehearsal packing and parcel photos

Rehearsal packing is a trial run: for CN¥20 per parcel the warehouse packs your chosen items, weighs and measures the result, and reports it within 24 hours under Personal Center, Rehearsal Package. You then submit the real parcel with the same items, packing and route. It is worth the fee when a parcel sits near a weight step or near a line's size limit. A parcel photo, CN¥5, is the cheaper option when you only want to see the box: one photo before sealing and one after.

Illustration drawn by this site, not a real Sugobuy account screen; the weights and box size are our example. Rehearsal packing costs CN¥20 per parcel, runs within 24 hours, and the result appears under Personal Center, Rehearsal Package. Why it pays near a weight step: at the GD-EMS rates in Sugobuy’s own consolidation example (CN¥205 for the first 500 g, CN¥72 for each further 500 g), 1,040 g bills as three steps, CN¥349, while 1,000 g bills as two, CN¥277. That CN¥72 gap is more than the CN¥20 rehearsal, before the per-item handling fee.

When items refuse to share a box

Two Sugobuy rules split parcels automatically. Any item with one side of 90 cm or more gets an individually packaged tag and travels alone. And when staff log an item, they set mailing restrictions from its attributes: batteries, liquids, powders and similar goods limit which lines will carry it, and a mixed selection may show no route at all. The fix is to submit the restricted item separately or pick a line that accepts it; View Reason on a greyed-out line tells you which rule applies.

Some things are simply removed: essential oils, care solutions, lubricants, batteries and glue are taken out of parcels to protect delivery, according to Sugobuy's prohibited items notes.

Weight, repetition and the commercial-parcel line

Customs offices, Sugobuy notes, look mainly at weight and quantity when deciding whether a parcel is personal or commercial. Above 10 kg the commercial label becomes more likely, and many copies of one item is the other common trigger. Liquids and medicines should stay under a tenth of the items in a parcel. The declaration is yours to set, either item by item or as a total that the system spreads across the contents, and Sugobuy gives three examples of declarations it considers unreasonable: a $1 declaration covering three pairs of shoes, a 10 kg item declared as a ring, and a US$200 parcel declared at US$1,000. Declare what the parcel is worth.

Coupons are applied here too, on the submit page, one per parcel. They are tied to your account and cannot be transferred or swapped for cash.
