Third leg: three free photos, a ninety-day shelf, a five-day return clock

Leg 3 is the only point in the trip where someone on your side handles the goods before you do. Sugobuy's warehouse photographs each item, holds it for free for a set time, and gives you a short window to send it back.

Inside Sugobuy's inspection scope, and outside it

Sugobuy's inspection scope page lists colour, large damage, stains, size, model and edition number. Clothing is checked against your order note and whatever size the label or swing tag states. Electronics are judged by appearance only: inspectors do not open sealed boxes to count accessories and do not switch anything on. Colour difference, size error and how the item performs in use are outside the scope.

One line on that page is easy to miss: where nothing obvious is wrong, Sugobuy assumes you have already agreed the details with the seller. In practice that means the order note is your inspection brief. Write the colour, the size and anything you care about there, and the inspector has something concrete to check. Items bought on 1688 follow a different inspection standard, the tutorial adds.

A four-step read of the free photos

The free photos come from fixed angles set per product category, so you cannot ask for different ones, only for a retake if they are blurred. Here is how to check QC photos without guessing:

  1. Open the listing photo and the warehouse photo side by side; compare the shape and colour under the warehouse light, which is usually cooler than studio light.
  2. Read every label in the photo: size tag, care label, model number. The size check relies on these.
  3. Look at the edges: stitching on hems and cuffs, sole glue lines, zip ends. Damage hides there.
  4. If something needs a closer look, order a detailed photo with the exact angle written out, before you build a parcel.

Do this within the return window. Once the item has gone into a parcel, the only remedy left is after-sales on arrival.

A 40-second illustrated walkthrough we made, without sound: where the free photos sit, how to read them in four passes, and when to pay CN¥1 for a detailed photo. Two frames are images from Sugobuy’s own tutorial; the rest are our illustrations, with crops of a listing photo standing in for warehouse photos. This is not an official Sugobuy video. Rule of thumb: four close-ups cost CN¥4, the 20-photo maximum CN¥20, and a blurred standard photo can be retaken free.

Paid close-ups at one yuan each

Detailed photos cost CN¥1 each, up to 20 per request, and you choose what they show: a zoomed seam, the inside of a shoe, a tape measure across a chest. They can be ordered with the purchase or after the item is stored; for stored items Sugobuy asks you to name the item number. If the photo does not show what you asked for, you can request a retake. Twenty yuan buys a full measuring session for one garment, less than the postage on a single return.

Illustration drawn by this site, not a real Sugobuy account screen; the jacket pictures are crops of a listing photo, and the weight and size are examples. Free inspection usually gives three standard photos at fixed angles. A detailed photo costs CN¥1, up to 20 per request: the four close-ups written here come to CN¥4, and a full set of 20 to CN¥20. For an item already in storage, give its item number, and make the photo count match the lines you write.

Day 60, day 90 and the six-month ceiling

The free period is 90 days, and the count starts at Stored. After that, if you have neither submitted a parcel nor written to Sugobuy, the goods are treated as abandoned and destroyed, and the status turns to Expired. An extension, priced at CN¥10 a month for each product ID, can be bought only between day 60 and day 90, and no item stays beyond half a year in total.

A product ID is one line in your warehouse, so five pairs of socks from one listing extend for CN¥10, while five different listings cost CN¥50 a month. The warehouse clock on the tools page works out the three dates for you.

Returns: one free a month, then CN¥5 plus postage

The return window opens the hour after your order turns In Warehouse and closes 120 hours later. The seller must offer returns and agree, and the item must be resaleable. Every account gets one return or exchange per calendar month without Sugobuy's service fee; later ones cost CN¥5 plus the postage to the seller and back. Who pays postage depends on the cause: no defect, you pay; a quality problem, the seller does.

Requesting a return while the order still shows unshipped costs nothing at all, since none of the three charging conditions applies yet.

The no-return list and the sealed-goods table

Sugobuy's exclusion list: custom-made products, promotional items sold as defective, items with tags removed at your request, newspapers and magazines, second-hand goods, products bought outside mainland China, underwear, socks and leggings, adult products, food, orders of 15 books or more, and sealed products once opened. A table of special standards adds detail: new sneakers must still carry an intact anti-theft clasp and an uncut anti-damage sticker, cosmetics and perfume stay sealed, and an SLR camera's shutter has been pressed 20 times or fewer.
